The Vindel Rapids in Vindeln are some of the largest and most impressive along the Vindel River. The rapids are most magnificent during the high water period in mid-June, although the area boasts fantastic countryside all year round. The rapids are accessible via hiking trails with bridges suspended above the thundering waters. Impressive!
The mill area of Vindeln is home to Degerfors Qvarn, which was erected in 1888. This mill was built using logs and comprised the existing structure with the exception of the power station room, which was added in about 1920, and the seed cleaning room from 1927. In the summer the mill plays host to "Konst i kvarn" (Art at the Mill), an intense art exhibition featuring about sixty visual artists and sculptors.
The Vindel River Nature Centre, which is housed on the bottom floor of Hotell Forsen, presents and brings to life the nature, culture and outdoor pursuits associated with this national river. Tourist information is available during the summer.
In the winter the local ski slope, Buberget, can be found just a few kilometres from town. There are both red and green slopes, as well as a winter caravan site.
Vindeln is just a 45-minute car drive from Umeå. You can also get here by bus or train.
