Cross-country skiing

Many cross-country skiing world champions and Olympic medal-winners have their roots in Västerbotten. This makes perfect sense, considering that the region offers mile upon mile of snow-covered landscape and prepared tracks.

In the fells, the cross-country skiing is literally on your doorstep. Ski through untracked terrain or follow a trail out into the wilds. In the areas closer to the coast you’ll find easily accessed prepared ski trails of a professional standard.

Some lit trails are even prepared with man-made snow and are open from early autumn to late spring. Some trails require payment in advance while others are free of charge. Västerbotten is the perfect place to train for a race, such as the Vasaloppet ski race. The small town of Norsjö and its surrounding area has nurtured many Vasaloppet winners. Might you be the next?
Contact or visit the local tourist information centre for more information about public cross-country ski trails and lit trails.
